The Asian Cat

Asian Cats....The Burmese Cat in Cat Walk Coats...!

Asians were developed by crosses Burmese with a number of other breeds to bring to the elegance of the Burmese a whole new variety of coat colours and patterns.

The lines were then bred back to Burmese to ensure they maintained the fabulous Burmese type and temperament which makes them extrovert intelligent and loving pets.

They are a new breed, still developing, but quickly gaining popularity as their fellow Burmese did. So if you love The Burmese character then you’ll love Asians too. GR PR & GR CH Vervain Goldberry

This is my gorgeous black ticked tabby Asian girl

Grand Champion & UK Grand Premier Vervain Goldberry

Or ‘Rani’ as we call her

I was very lucky to have Rani, she came from Naomi Johnson who has bred many wonderful cats of character along with stunning looks that have gained them many titles on the show bench. Rani is very special as finding her was the beginning of my serious cat passions!

Today Asians are available in more coat colours and patterns than I have room for here to do them justice.

But here, very briefly,are the main groups;

The Tabby ; Having each hair banded with colours like my girl above, which can come in all colours including silvers.

Asian Tabbies can be Classic, Spotted and Mackrel patterned tabbies too although Ticked is the most common at the moment.

The Burmilla ; having just the tips of the hairs coloured with the undercoat various shades of cream or sparkling white in the case of Silver Burmillas. These are some of the most stunning cats which have been winning many high honours at the big National and Supreme shows.

The Self ; All one solid colour similar to the Burmese, except they are what we call full expression colours eg black, better known of as The Bombay, which looks like a sleek black panther cat. Selfs also come in a lovely dark pewter Blue, Lilac, Chocolate, Cream, Red, Caramel and all the tortie variations too.

The Smoke ; These have the colour on over half the length of each hair with a brilliant silver white under coat. This produces what some describe as a watermark effect. Black smokes are one of the most stunning for me, but you make your own mind up!

We can also get kittens that have Burmese coloured coats and so look identical to any other Burmese of the same colour. Because they have Asians in their pedigree however they must be registered as an Asian. They are called Asian Variants.

Why not visit The Asian Group Cat Society and find out more about the Asian Cat You'll find more about how the breed was first developed and pictures of the different coat colours and patterns, along with information about kittens that are available now
